About Karen Ann Victoria O'Brien
A LITTLE ABOUT ME
I grew up in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston and moved, as an adult, to live in San Francisco for 22 years. Though I am a self-taught painter, I hold a degree in Visual Design from UMASS/Dartmouth. I have worked as an artist for greeting cards and in advertising. I then left my design work to support myself in other work.
Presently I work from a home studio in Dedham, MA when not selling real estate.
ABOUT MY PROCESS
Color is the underlying theme in most of my work. I paint using acrylic, together with charcoal, glazes, papers and varnish. Inspiration comes from my environment. My art is my translation. Patterns and light are captured with my camera and show up in my work.
THE NAME: I soon found out there are dozens of Karen O'Briens across the USA. Some are even artists and have a web presence. I decided to use my more formal full name and also the initials as KAVO STUDIO. My Facebook page is kavostudio.
Almost all the work you see is canvas on wood stretchers. The paint is water based acrylic which is odorless. Occasionally, I use a finished wood cradle.
I am happy to have a conversation with you about any piece or series. Each work comes wired in the back for immediate hanging. Sides are painted so no frame needed.
I remember the feeling of buying someone else's art and it feels like buying a treasure. Thank you for visiting my site.
ALL PAINTINGS UNDER 30" ON THE LONGEST SIDE WILL BE SHIPPED USPS IN THE USA FOR FREE. LARGER PIECES WILL SHIP UPS. I WILL PROVIDE AN ESTIMATE UPON REQUEST.
I can be reached at Kavostudio at gmail dot com.
